BIODIVERSITY & REWILDING

Drumadoon is designated as a 'Special Protected Area' by Nature.Scot & Scottish Government and the surrounding coastal waters are a 'Marine Protected Area'.

Over 30 years ago, the natural processes were given the freedom to start to reshape and restore the landscape on most of the farmland, and now the native Scottish Rainforest is regenerating on the coastal fringes. The moorland is covered in a healthy wetland and deep heather, full of fauna and flora.

The next step is to help increase Biodiversity. 150 acres of native Scottish Rainforest will be planted to support the existing regeneration and create new wetland features to benefit wildlife. Owl and Raptor boxes will be added to help our resident species.

The non-native forest plantations will be removed along with the hill land internal fences to allow free animal movement. Free-roaming native cattle and ponies will be introduced to manage the land.

Regenerative tourism will be the economic driver of our Rewilding plans. Guests are encouraged to switch off from the modern world, reconnect with nature, and participate in the Rewilding, Archaeological, Wildlife and Conservation projects.

Drumadoon is proud to be working alongside ‘Scotland The Big Picture’ and is a founder member of it’s Northwoods Rewilding Network.

“Among all the partners in the Northwoods Rewilding Network, Drumadoon’s location, spectacular setting and mosaic of habitats give it unrivalled potential to demonstrate rewilding principles - helping nature bounce back from the brink and bringing economic and social benefits to the people of Arran”.
